Hi; I'm trying to fit a Jim Dunlop straplock to my Ovation CS255 12 string ... thus far, I've taken off the existing strap buttons and managed to install the replacement button on the bridge end of my guitar.

But ... the button at the neck end is a different story. The Dunlop lock is supplied with a screw that fits properly inside the button, so that the strap can be properly locked to the button. The original bolt that held the button to the guitar is too large for the lock to work and the screw supplied by Jim Dunlop doesn't fit either, since the original fitting was secured by a bolt.

Basically, I have a half-installed strap lock, I'm getting very frustrated, I've visited every hardware store within commuting distance and can't find an appropriate sized screw.

Does *anyone* know what size of screw / bolt / whatever I need? Please????

Take the original Ovation screw and put it in a drill/screw-gun. "Spin" it on a piece of sandpaper/emery cloth till the screw head is small enough to fit into the Dunlop . . .

I've done this a bunch o'times.

I used the file on a "Leatherman" muti-tool with the "screw-in-the-drill" trick. It only took about 5 seconds....

Don't worry about the threads either. You don't have to crank down the chuck very tight, and the threads in the inserts are "loose" anyway.

What Cliff said.

You will find that most Ovations have a machine thread screw. Just reduce the head width.

I have done that on 6-8 acoustics.

For the solids use the Dunlop Wood Screw but lube it with bar soap first.

Or just running over the screw head edge with a metal file works (for me)

I just wrap the screw threads with a little tape, chuck in a drill and hold some emery clotharound the head, and spin it for a few seconds. Does the trick for me...
