Finally had a chance to play with the 87 collector's. It had 1919s on it and my daughter broke one tuning it when it came home, so I put a set of 1818s on. I got a buzz above the 12th fret on the high E string. Thought it was a warped neck, but fortunately it turned out to be a couple high frets. I tapped them down last night and it is now fantastic. It has more bass boom than the 1537 and doesn't play as easily, but it also has a little thicker strings.
It is drop dead gorgeous, maybe prettier than the 99 Collector's. Fantastic guitar. It's great in almost every respect.

Hi,Mark
Nice to know you got a 1987 Collector's. I would like to have one. Congrats! Please don't forget your 1977 Folklore 1614.

Sounds like another keeper!

Quite a list you've generated in, what? 15 months? Not bad!

It IS a cool list, and Mark certainly warrants a nice '87!

Thanks, guys. And don't worry, Povation. The Folklore is still one of my favorites, but I have lots of favorites. Although my wife is probably correct in thinking that I've gone off the deep end, every one of mine has significant differences from the one next to it, even though they are all Ovations. Need to learn some new songs, now.

Congratulations.

I believe in a recent poll of members the 87 Collectors won.

I'm to lazy to go look it up.

But what are polls anyway when the only opinion that counts is yours. Sounds like you have a winner. :) :D

If not the winner, it was one of the top 3.

Great guitar that sounds as good as it looks.

I just looked it up.

1. 87 Collectors
2. 97 Collectors
3. A tie 2001 and 2004

 At least I have a #2

Mark, when you say bass boom, are you saying that is a good or bad thing?

I like bass, maybe because I sang bass in college. One of the reasons I got my first Ovation, though, was because it has such good tone from lows to highs.
