Location: No Town, California | I am looking at getting this guitar for practice use and maybe live shows. I can't afford the ovation model. I was wondering if this is a good guitar. What do you guys think? :confused: |

I'm inclined to think you could still find a USA made O for just a bit more than the Applause if you are willing to wait. List a "Want Ad" in the "For Sale" section name what you would like and the price range you can spend... |

I would consider a Celebrity like this before an Applause. With a bit of patience you could score a USA nylon in good playing shape for the same or less than this Celeb... |

I used to own an Applause AE-48, and for the price, they're decent guitars. The one I had was made in China; it had a plywood top, and the neck's made from nato wood. Unfortunately, their "bare bones" electronics doesn't justify much, that they're better off unplugged than amplified. Mine sounded annoyingly bright when plugged in an acoustic amp.
Tha guitar served me well for over 2 years. It had a soft but balanced sound, which made it ideal for practicing on the front porch without disturbing the neighbors. I also took it to outdoor trips (e.g. camping), but it stayed mostly in the classroom where I accompanied my children, during music sing-a-long sessions. I finally parted with it when the neck got damaged, as a result of a child accidentally slamming against it.
If you're looking for a guitar that will serve your needs in the short-term, Applause guitars are decent for their retail price. Honestly though, if you can squeeze in a hundred (or a couple) more, you might be happier with an Ovation made in the U.S. They're better constructed -- craftsmanship and materialwise -- and they tend to hold their resale value much more.

Location: No Town, California | Thanks for all the input. However the only thing about the CC059 is that it's a shallow body, and the applause is a deep bowl. I am not sure about the sound quality of a super shallow body. The deep bowl sounds great. Anyone tried the CC059? |

Location: Hicksville, NY | Unplugged, don't expect much sound from a shallow bowl Ovation. It has a soft, crisp, and bright tone, but it doesn't project as effectively as a medium or deep bowl would. Amplified however, the shallow body Ovation comes to life, and pretty much the sky's the limit! I only have one Ovation, and it happens to have a shallow bowl body (just like the CC059). It also comes equipped with the OP-24+ preamp, and it's more than sufficient to get the job done. I'm quite happy with my O.
Unfortunately, my knowledge with nylon string Ovations, or nylon string guitars in general are limited (or lacking even). The only nylon string I own is a Takamine, and I'm pretty pleased with it. It may be a non-O, but at least, it's still a Kaman music product.
