Damn, lookie what fell into my lap for $172. I think it went cheap because the original electronics for gone, but I've got extra sets of 2-knobbers so no problem. This should be one hell of a beater guitar. Dave

For $172. does it really matter? Should get it late this week. Deep bowl, A braced. Souldn't sound too bad for a beater. Dave

I got the guitar yesterday. What a bargin. First impressions:

The case is well broken in, like a pair of old Hush Puppy's. Fully functional, but it's seen some serious use. Actually I kind of like the character.

Guitar is filthy. Just covered with grim and goo. How in the hell anyone can let an instrument get like this is beyond me. Makes me wonder what the rest of the house looked like. Spent well over an hour cleaning it. But funationally shes pretty good. neck is perfect, frets good, no buzzing, everyything is A-OK. Plenty of cosmetic issues, 6-8 various lacquer cracks etc. But like I said it's all in the character. I kind of like it. Maybe having a guitar what I don't give a shit about humidity or having to wear Lord Stanley's gloves to handle will be a nice change Tuners are pretty grimy and will probably get replaced.

Electronics work perfectly, but it's kind of funky. The whole 2-knobber package has been removed. Installed is a stacked V/T preamp in one of the knobber holes. The other hole is covered by electrical tape. Inside the bowl (no label) is about 2 feet of cable all wound up and rattling around like hell. I'm pretty sore I'm going to just gut the whole thing and fill the 2 knobber holes with a couple of neuticals.

Acoustically this thing sounds REALLY GOOD. It actually sounds a lot like the John Lennon Legend. Has that Ovation midrange throatiness. Hard to describe, but I really like it and it plays really well. I put 1818's on it.

So overall I think I got a good one. I may fix up the cosmetics a little. Or not. It's been a long time since I had a beater guitar and it's actually kind of refreshing. Kind of like having a homely girlfriend, you can throw her around and beat on her a little and not have to worry about breaking her nails or smudging her makeup...

Nothing like the smell of Binary Resin and a project to work on! Good going Dave!

I have a Folklore with mucho character that is awaiting tuners. Living the Dream.

For the record, I have OVERPAID for many items. Some that were not worth it, some that were only worth it to me. I rarely get "lucky", but this time was just my turn I guess.

It's a half-full, half-empty thing.

You have some nice O's. They could each be a result of a sweet deal. Or you could always wish you'd done better. I think of life as being sweet as long as my O-count, like entropy, is always increasing.

Yes, the glass is half full. I'm not angry at your wonderful deal, it's an awesome guitar and I'm sure you'll love it. I'd just like an old relative to pass on to me a mint condition never-been-played shiny bowl slot head prototype in the trunk of the '59 Eldorado they drove home from the dealer and hasn't since been out of the garage. :)

Followup: I gutted the electronics, patched up the holes left behind, new tuners, cleaned it up from tip to toe and restrung. Plays and sounds really nice. Best 2 bills I ever spent. I'll get some pics on the website soon. Dave
