Location: south east Michigan | Brian & I played at a "jam" party last night. Real tight-rope stuff. We got together with the keyboard, bass & drummer for a whole 2 hours of rehersal time. But I think it went well.
If I'm going to play my UTE in situations like this I'll have to get some airlocks or something. I had to press the palm of my hand on the top to settle it down.
It's very different playing with a drummer. If he starts in an uncomfortable tempo, your stuck with it. We got though "Knights in White Satin" in record time.
These were our partners for the evening.

Over the years I've grown acustomed to the wayward whims of my music partner. We all know a "golf club" guy. You know..always switching brands...alway looking for a different angle. Well..that's Brian. But he always comes back around. And always a better musician than before.
We must have done 15 songs. Much more fun the the 3 songs and out open mic thing. |

Location: SE Michigan | That guy with that expensive Taylor, I knew him when he played O's Hey, it was cheaper than a lot of the new special addition Adamas's. And I still have my 1777lx Legend.
But I have to say I'm really getting into this electic guitar stuff. I just picked up an all-tube Fender Blues Junior and with the Taylor driving it hard it really puts out a thick gushy tone.
There's a place for the Legend, but we were playing mostly 70's cover rock songs and with the drums bass and keyboard the T5 was the way to go. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I think the Taylor T5 is really nice and with such advancemens in electronic technology I think this type of guitar is the "wave of the future".
It would be nice to see Ovation moderize the Viper and make it a competitor in this genre of guitar. AND to actually market it as such. Just because you use space age plastics and adhesives does not necessarily make you the high tech leader.

I've been lusting after a tweed Blues Deluxe, but can't justify it.
I see that some of the cheaper brands already have knock-offs of the Taylor T-5.

Location: Cherry Hill, NJ | Good move by any guitar maker to copy the Taylor T guitars, and sell them cheaper. I'm surprised Ovation hasn't come up with a competitor. I know they could do a great job. And, Brian, I happen to like your guitar, I'm sure it brings out a new style of playing. |

Roger I play my strat on a Fender Deville. That whole blues tube line they have is just great! |

Location: Scotland | There's been a few hybrid guitars long before the T5. Hamer, Carvin, Parker etc. The only real difference I can tell is that they didn't have Taylors superb marketing. I had a chance to A/B a T5 with a piezo-equipped Parker Fly and for me the Parker out-performed the Taylor in every respect. |

Location: Maine | I have two Blues Jrs and a '72 Champ which I use for my electric work and at times, with my Adamas. A lot of studio recordings of electro-acoustics use older Champs for the electric signal, nice saturated signal. Blues Jrs are great, just make sure you toss the Groove Tubes in the trash and put something better in it like JJs which are cheap and yet comparable to most of the boutique NOS RCAs and Mullards. |
