Joined: July 2006 Posts: 4 Location: finland | Hello, I am Ronald and live in Finland. I was just 2 weeks ago on a trip to Japan and Korea. In Japan I visited the John Lennon Museum and saw that John owned an Ovation (singel sound hole)I thought it was a celebrity but I am not sure. He used it at home and on his sailboat to compose. A few days later I visited Seoul and my friends took me to this flea market where there were lots of guitars stacked up on top of each other. And I saw in between the 'ruble' an ovation celebrity. I thought maybe a fake but it wasn't. I got it for 20 dollars. In good condition, a bit high action but I already took care of that. A smal hairline crack in the black laquer (not in the wood)from the bridge to the bottom, no other damages. Tuners are ping, ovation logo on the headstock, (and made in korea sticker) the 'celebrity by ovation sticker with kaman music inside and model number 'cc157' and a serial number(seperate sticker). The serial number is 322663 and of course the question how old might this one be? Now I know by reading simular subjects in this forum that it is not easy to date a celebrity, stange isn't there anybody in the factory who keeps track? only possible way is if there are others on this forum with a celbrity and to let me know the serial number to see if they are higher or lower and if they know there celebrity's purchase/manufacturer date. A hint maybe that I just replaced the battery (what a problem to get it back in place) and the battery's last selling dat on the side was(duracel battery) 'Jul 94' if I check on this webpages price catalogue I notice that the pricing for the cc157 does start from 1991. If I think that when you purchase a battery the end date is usualy 2 years. and if this was maybe still the first battery(who knows?) I came to maybe 1992 as manufacture date (if there were no celebrity's made before '91). The only thing that puzzles me is the fact that there is a scond sticker inside, under the 'celebrity by ovation' sticker that says 'quality sound segovia with' and then some korean characters. Thats why at first I thought it might be a copy made by segovia or so but all other facts check out? I can not find anything on this extra segovia sticker? on the internet anybody got a clue? thanks in advance for any help or info many regards Ronald

The celebrity numbering system is not like the USA model system. Only way to tell is with the pics.

It is a natural finish cutaway with a single soundhole, supershallow bowl, and I've enjoyed it for many years. Generally ronald, the Celebrity's, I've found out, are not super collectable, mostly it's the USA made ones that fetch the big bucks, but it's a fine playing guitar, and I"ve enjoyed it for many years. I don't think someone would copy a celebrity. For 20 bucks, crack and all, I think you got a steal. I don't know about the Segovia sticker. Segovia (named after Andres Segovia) makes some fine classical guitars, and I believe they are made in Spain. I could be wrong about that. Perhaps it's the name of the pickup they were using or something???
