Joined: March 2006 Posts: 25 | I have a 1773LX acoustic and when I play plugged I want the acoustic sound to be muted (to let my wife and kid sleep). Is there a device that allows the sound from ovation guitars to be muted? I've seen this: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=66884 but I'm not sure it will actually reduce the acoustic volume. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

They reduce the 80 to 100Hz range by several dB, but in terms of perceived volume there's not a lot in it. You could try the patented OFC tour "boot" technique. It certainly made the guitar we tried it on a lot quieter.

I've used the FeedbackBuster for this exact purpose, and it works quite well. I wouldn't rely on it to minimize any moderate-to-agressive strumming, but if you're just picking & noodling around, it'll keep you from having to dodge a well-aimed slipper . . .

It's an excellent mute. Sure it makes it a little plinky sounding, but you'll be able to practice. I guess that's where they got the expression put a sock in it?
