Ovation does not have an "A" scale instrument. I pestered for one to compete with the Tacoma Papoose and related Olympia OSP Solidbody.

Breedlove's offshore make has the C20 Passport.

There is a smaller AA-12 that could be strung a little tighter.

nope, none, nada, nothing, nyet, zip, zero ...
There should be something like the papoose in both electric and acoustic versions, but, there's not.

It's been my experience that the best travel guitars are short electrics, try erlwine's chaquita, a steinberger broom or an electric olympia papoose.

Papoose do come in an A/E version with EMG active UST, and they roar. Here's my P4kn nylon string with flat fretboard tuned to A. It's basically a requinto classical.

19 inch scale length and 1 7/8 nut width. Changing the 9v battery is a bit sticky getting it in and out of the small sound hole. TRC upgrade is thanks to MWoody.

Now, should I tune it to A? What would be your recommendation?

Scale and string gage are the factors. While I believe that it will come set up for standard pitch I have to agree with what PT said. Try tuning up a step and see if it makes a difference.

Dave, I appreciate your Uke endevours but my loyalty still goes to the Papooses. Mostly because I'm too lazy to learn new chords.

yep, me too. Ukes are OK, but I'm a papoose man.

By the way, MWoody, how'd the tru-oil project go?

I just used Pure Tung oil on the neck and lacquered the body.

I do have a fairly beat papoose that I might want to pull the pg on, sand and oil. Maybe I should just play it.

Bailey,
The Requinto Guitar

Pardon me for not specifying 6 string requinto. I know it's all confusing: a requinto is a small scale guitar, a five string something that kinda looks like a drum is a banjo, and a quinto is some kinda drum, eh?

MWoody,
How'd you apply the lacquer?

I have to say, for necks, that tru-oil is stuff is pretty good.

The papoose is a 6 string requinto? Doesn't quinto mean fifth? So wouln't a papoose be a resixto or reseisto, or something like that?
