Is it possible to attach a 12-string neck and bridge to a Deacon or Breadwinner body? I've been toying with the idea of picking up a body on fleabay and tinkering...looking for input/inspiration.

Any ideas?

Specifially, what about a body like this Deacon?

Also, what's the going price for a 12-string Ovation bridge, or is there a better option for a solidbody out there? This one seems a bit high to me.

First, you need a solid body neck to attach to a solid body O. The size and bolting is different than the Strat/Tele necks on the open market. The only hope rests in Mount Vernon.

Next, how bad do do want one and we can work on getting/making one for you!

Third, thanks for pointing that out! It will probably go for more than $100 and I'll be sniping it from you!

That is a good price for the 12 string bridge, CT will charge $150 (with studs). That is Miles auction BTW.

PS - I love you man!

if you can get a neck and a bridge which are extremely rare you can make it happen

Andrew,

I just bought the Deacon backplate that that same seller put on ebay. I'll let you know how the shipping is.

I don't know about the feasibility question, but I do know that Sunny Ledges is Miles-Kevin Baron (Mr. Ovation) and you'll have a hard time finding a more complete source of hardbody parts.

Whoa, there fireball! Mike, are you going into the guitar business or what? I could have sworn I already saw your name on like six other body auctions... ;)

Seriously, are you going for that one too, or should I?

Also, keep an eye on the breadwinner/deacon replacement boards thread. I'm working on building out new preamp boards for Deacons from currently available components.

Melmoth, that's what I was wondering...didn't know of anyone else that would have NOS Ovation solidbody parts...makes sense.

You should let me get, do all the work, loan it to you as one of yours quietly slips out of the house...

I have a habit of spending more time and money on a guitar than I sell it for.

There may be a "Mwoody's second chance" shop in 07! We'll see.

If you want to go for it, by all means...one less thing I have to explain to the Mrs. Yours obviously has come to grips with your condition - mine is still in denial. :D

Oh, while I'm thinking about it, I still have this busted up case for a Viper here - do you still want it, Mike? If so, I can bring it to the PO market next Saturday and connect with you there.

If anybody's interested, I've got one of the fixed saddle 12 string bridges that I could part with fairly cheaply.....

Andy,
Can I infer that you might have an extra 12-string acoustic neck? Maybe? Since you can't use it on the Deacon are you looking to sell?

MW,
Any experience - would a Storm neck fit the Solid bodies?

I defer to Miles, W2 or Tupp on that one. I think the Holler bodies are thicker at the heel.

Samova has a great Eclipse neck to do some 'sperimentin' with mating it to a Solid body...
"The Island of Doctor Morovation"

I have two projects going and defer to someone else to find out.

Mitz,

No neck as of yet...this was half hypothetical/half possible...which of course means that it probably will happen, now that Woody has the idea...

Could you, hypothetically, place an acoustic neck on a solid body?

One could, hypothetically, place an acoustic neck on the moon. But on a solid body? It would be easier to build one from scratch than to modify the heel and scarf in the new wood and have it hold when strung.

Okay, since evidently the cards may play out for this one to happen, I have a 12-string bridge coming, and Woody is stockpiling bodies like he's the morgue. :D

Now all I need is a neck, some electronics, pickups, plates...

Mel is working the Electronics if you want the originalish sounds. I like my Phat Cat Limited 12 Mutt so there are possibilities. A set up using TV Jones Classic and a rewired Active set would screem !

I hope to get over to Mile's to scope out Necks and such.

I can make neck plates and battery covers out of 4000 Series Aluminum and use them until donor stuff becomes available.

Q: for Miles, Paul Templeman et al, sound-o-philes. If you had to wire a guitar in a Deacon-like manner what setup would you do?

Storms won't fit a solid body, I don't think. If the do the action and scale will most certainly be off.
B'dweinner 6 and 12 are different widths at the heel. The bridge will fit but the neck will over hang the body. Holes might not line up either.
