Joined: January 2002 Posts: 15 | I have a solid body electric for trade and someone has offered this Ovation Elite super shallow up for trade, he says it's a USA model and that he bought it used in 1990 and that is only has a little wear on it and on issues, here's pictures, what is it and what is it worth? How should it sound through a system at church? Thanks Guys ![]() ![]() ![]()

Check ebay - do a search under finished listings, and it'll bring up a number of completed auctions and the final prices. Nice guitar - if the trade value is right, I'd do it.

If it was bought used pre-1990, with the OP24 preamp, I'd say mid to late 80's. I have a 1718 from '87 with the OP24, which is probably right about the age of the one you're looking at.

I don't know, he didn't give it to me, I guess I should ask....... I figured it was from the late 80's since he said he bought it from his brother in 1990...... but I thought someone here may have known what years this model with this particular preamp was made.........

I don't think there's a way passively to look up the production run on the 1868 to know for sure, but you could call Kim or John at Ovation's customer service and I'm sure they could tell you for sure the possible range. If you can get the serial number from him, you could give that to Ovation, and they should be able to tell you when it was made, where it was first sold, any service work they've done on it, etc. Probably be the best way to go. I love the shallow bowls - the deeper ones do sound better unplugged, but the shallow are by far the best to gig with.

You can see pictures of mine in my gallery . Mine was purchased used, but in mint condition. There wasn't a scratch or a ding on it anywhere. It didn't have the hang tags, manual or wrench, but it did have the OHSC. I gave $650, caish monies, about two point five years ago for it. It was purchased at a local music store. I rarely play it plugged in, and never in a worship environment, so I can't provide any first-hand experience there. However, seeing as it's an O and O's seem to be the plugged in acoustic guitar of choice for worship players (at least on this board...heh), it can't sound too bad, eh?

Assuming no cracks and no neck/bridge issues and the frets are good, $500 is a ballpark avenue. They go for less and they go for more. I play a shallow bowl 1869 Custom Legend as my regular gig guitar and love it. I have had many 1868s, and they run a close second. Great acoustic/electric. Not a big unplugged sound, but not a bad one, either.

Sentimentality adds nothing to either function or value. You can sell your guitar, buy a used Ovation for less, and take the significant other in your life out for a nice dinner. Or... you can sell your guitar and spend even more to buy a Taylor that's not as good. ;)
