I hear tell about these Saverez strings from time to time. What will they do to the sound coming from a classical guitar? Will it be louder, less mellow.

I ask because I know a kid with a nylon string who wants to get a steel string because of the louder, bolder sound. Just wondering if a string change would satisfy her for a while.

Have them try D'Addario EJ46 Hard Tension.

Or if they don't like have to tie the ends, try D'Addario J33 Folk Nylon Ball Ends.

no No NO....

If she wants to try something more "steel-like", get her a set of the Thomastik-John Pearse® Guitar Strings. They are silverplated wound basses and polished nylon wound over a rope core trebles. Very thin, but they have enough mass top get the top moving.

The Savarez 520P1's (all wrapped E to e) are for a really big "Nylon Sound". Very cool, but not at all like steel.

How about Silk & Steel if the guitar is rugged enough to take it.

Even though I know Ovation's are the best built guitars around, I would never put snything with "steel" in the name on a classical. The JP's actually have lower tension than some nylon sets. By the time you get to light enough tensions in silk and steels, they don't have enough mass to make the guitar sound good.
