In an attempt to delve into recording, Cliff recommended that I look into a Samson USB Condenser Mic . This is a very simple, high quality way to interface with your recording software.

I was amazed at how simple it is and the sound quality is very good.

I was suitably impressed by the sound sample you sent to me. Great sounding mic for the money.

Imagine how it would sound if used by someone with talent...

I thought Breeze did a wonderful job. I mean, not having opposable thumbs, and all...

I'm a bit afraid of the thought of Breeze equipped with digital opposition.

As I sit here, half crocked on Blantons (the finest boubon in the world IMHO), I'm a bit afraid of both of you!

At least then she could tune your guitars for you.

If you have a line level input on your computer, I find the Maudio Audio Buddy dual preamp to be a pretty good deal. It gives you two balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (Phone) inputs with separate gain controls and clipping indicators, and it's not very expensive. I record my guitar into the sound card line in with one and it sounds super-clean. I was planning to make some sound samples of the deacon as soon as it's ready with it, possibly this weekend.

Jeffery,
they just release Cubase 4 and Sonar 6 is coming out "any day now"!

Don't pay the mortgage this month and get them both :D

T-

Recently copped on the Cakewalk (usenet) newsgroup that S6 started arriving a couple days back in the hands of those who pre-ordered.

I upgraded to S5 last year (skipped S4, but got it for 'free' while waiting for the S5 to ship), and have used it maybe thrice, so didn't do the S6 upgrade. Didja go for it?

If you're a cheap sob like me there are also some great free software options. Check out Audacity or, if you are a linux or macos user and want all the options of a high-end digital studio, Ardour.

Personally, I find that for most of what I want to do, Audacity is plenty capable.

I've got plenty of software in GarageBand, which came bundled on my lap top.

Hey John...where you been hiding????

I will probably spring for the Cubase Update and check out Sonar (for the time being) from the sidelines. I have version 5 and haven't looked at the upgrade/improvements that 6 has to offer but it seems to be creating quite a buzz.

Interesting that I can pay for the upgrade or have my son buy a "full blown" version using his academic discount for the same price. I am tempted to have he get it for me and then sell off the older version to someone who might want to upgrade cheap.

In a "lights out" server room this week. I tried to resign. I was told, 'Your resignation has been declined.' I tried to get fired yesterday and was laughed at.

Yeah, like I said, I haven't really exercised Sonar 5 (I don't know why I bother buying the Producer version). Historically, Cakewalk has offered the lowest upgrade price to holders of the previous two versions. So, hoping this holds true, I'll wait until 7 comes out next year. If I'm lucky, they'll do another 'if you pay now, we'll send you 6 to play with in the mean time' deal. How do you like Cubase?

Hrmm, that almost sounds illegal. ;) Then again, I once used an expired, and quite old, student ID card to purchase an Academic version of Borland JBuilder. Not until after Borland support informed me that it was an unrestricted (license wise), full-blown version of the 'commericial' product, of course. On a side note (like I haven't gone off track far enough already), the posession of said JBuilder was probably half the reason Sun took me in to the beta program for their own Java Studio project (v1.0!). Man, that was a long time ago. One of these days I'm going to start feeling old. ;)

How are things in CO? My wife's folks are out there on their annual Tour O' The West. They went to Tahoe to see her brother, then through Utah to visit some other relatives, then Wyoming and blah blah blah. They're in the Mead area for a week or so before heading back. I think this weekend is the open house at the ranch her aunt/uncle just purchased. I don't know where in CO it's at, though. I asked her why we didn't get invited out for the shindig. She said, "We were." Apparently I wasn't paying attention at some point.

Heh.
