Today marks the fifth anniversary of the day my bluegrass fiddler lost his nine-month battle with lung cancer and went home to the One he longed to see. He was a carpenter, an unassuming, humble fellow with a very dry sense of humor who played a great mandolin, good guitar, passable banjo, and began to learn bluegrass fiddle at the age of 45 because he so admired those who could play it well. A real sweetheart.

So, here's the request part: For those of you who have your SWMBO, picture your life if you knew you would lose her in nine months, and go give her a big hug. For my sisters who have their HWMBP ("He Who Must Be Pampered"), do the same--because, as those of us who have walked where I am will tell you, you just never know what the future may bring.

(And as an aside to our new member Victor, of course they'll razz you about banjo-playing--they're just jealous because they can't handle anything that complicated. ;) :D ;) Inspite of that, though, this is a great place to visit.)

SWMBO is in San Diego and I haven't had the chance to thank her for my 30th Anniversary gift. Will be sure to do so tomorrow.

Second to what Brad said. Thanks for sharing, Karen. Those who love and are loved are truly a blessing to those of us around them.

Blessings to you this day.

Having spent 8 of the last 9 days on the road in Austin and Chicago without my wife, I can say that I was really eager to get home. Loving and being loved is a true gift of grace, because we don't earn it or deserve it. (Well, some of you know YOU do, but I know I don't.) ;)

Karen, I've lost two of the most important people in my life within the last nine years, my brother and my father. Since I'm not married I can't even imagine what it would be like to lose a spouse. I hope you find someone new, but very different from your lost one (so that he will always remain special) but who provides you with as much love and happiness. The pain won't ever go away, but happiness is still possible.

Well Said.

I think we've all learned an important lesson here:

Bluegrass'll Kill Ya'.

Yeah, but you'll have one heck of a good time in the process! :D

BTW, I married an angel ... and I tell her so every day. You just can't say "I love you" too much. You just never know if it'll be the last time you get the chance to say so.

Slightly off the topic here, but in Brooklyn some of the hotest players are bluegrassers, but they are under appreiciated because no one thinks that bluegrass spawns great musicians. The cogneseti know better.

Karen, thanks for sharing!

BTW - HWMBP is a lot better than HWMBG or HWTHIC!

Well said, Karen. Of all the gifts, "the greatest of these is love." That truth is more real to me now than ever before. I'm thinking of you today.

Woody,
Which one are you?

Most days I'm HWTHIC. And then on some days I'm both.

Karen thanks for sharing. Most of us have lost someone dear to us. A reminder to slow down and take time for those we love is always good advice.
