Joined: November 2006 Posts: 10 Location: Connecticut | It is actually my first purchased Ovation. I plugged it into my orange rig to try it out and it twang like my american tele. I was sold. I got it for $350 including the original brown ovation hardshell case. The only thing that is odd to me is the plastic bridge and tuners, and I saw on here people swapping them out for metal. Can any of you point me in the direction for purchasing this? Thanks.

Should be either a Plastic covered Brass bridge (the best one in my opinion) or the newer all Chrome brass bridge. Both have brass saddles. The tuner machined should be Schaller and have the Ovation logo on the back of them. Still for the price, even if it needs a few things, you have a great guitar. My favorite of all the Ovation solid body guitars. Get used to using the Vol and Tone like you would on a Tele or Strat, those big knobs are there for a reason :) Oh, and if you do need parts, you can email me, I might have a few laying around. Welcome to the club.

Or is what I have fine. If I can keep it the way it is I want to. Also, I could be wrong about the tuners, they seemed like they were part plastic. I will post photos soon and register my serial #. I already want a preacher and thunderhead. It's bad. Also, flipping through the pickup selector was like Christmas with ever click. I fell harder and harder. This was originally going to be my back up to my tele, but who knows now.

Then cam two or three versions of the Brass Plastic bridge with brass saddles. Last were the One piece Schaller chrome or gold plated bridges. You can contact Customer Service, buy from Miles or scan Ebay like the usual suspects. Be sure and put pictures of your Viper up! Welcome!

Joined: November 2006 Posts: 10 Location: Connecticut | how is that pricewise? $95? I also never had gold hardware on a guitar, that looks like a beaut though. Would that be easy enough to swap out? Is there a big difference my plastic covered bridge and that? also, in the ebay post...what does NOS mean?

Joined: November 2006 Posts: 10 Location: Connecticut | Hmmm, looks wise the you are right, but the bridge on ebay being gold might clash on my guitar. If I could get a chrome one, I would do it up. Gold looks really nice with natural finishes. But mine is a burst and I am thinking I will wait for a solid chrome one. I just see plactic and I automatically assume crappy. But I didn't know it was just a cover. p.s. I love that pickguard!!! oooh wait and matching TRC! Thats all custom work right?

It functions perfectly fine, no replaced hardware and there is the tiniest ding on the edge, which I didn't notice at first. I think I made out pretty well. Now where can I get one of those nice double cut away Preachers?

The solid brass saddles, against a brass plate (and actually screwed to the brass plate on later versions) combined with the support post going into the body I think makes a lot of difference in transference between the body and bridge. The newer all metal Schaller bridges look nice, but are basically just floating on the mounting studs. If you do plan on switching, remember there is a hole that goes through the body on the older ones that is not used on the newer ones. The mounting studs will have to be swapped out also. No modifications to the body need be done, the new studs fit in the old retainers and vs versa.
