Location: florida | I searched the archives before asking this question but did not find an answer. I hope some of you can help. I may be completely off base with my thinking and you may have even better ideas.
As the holidays approach my spouse asked for gift ideas. I thought I might benefit my guitar efforts (I am strictly a recreational player and play really only for myself) with some sort of drum machine or rhythm machine to help me get better with my timing and perhaps even come up with some new strumming patterns. One of the things I need to improve on is staying in time particularly with more complicated strumming patterns.
I have a small Korg tuner/metronome (inexpensive) unit but you can not hear the sound of the metronome while you are playing--it is great as a tuner and not all that helpful as a metronome.
I do not record myself and could not use a machine which you tie to a computer. In my mind I would like something I could attach to my amplifier, create some good beats and play along with my Ovation.
I know nothing about drum machines and frankly was lost looking at music store web sites with their offerings.
Nothing real expensive. Does anyone have an ideas which might help me with the idea I have of attaching somthing to my amplifier? Thank you all very much. |

Location: SoCal | I'll be curious as the the answers myself. I was watching a Buster B Jones instructional dvd last night and he said to get a drum machine rather than a metronome, as it is much more fun and entertaining to practice with. |

Location: Hiram, Georgia | digitech dsp pedals have drums built in for as little as $60 and tuner too. Yamaha and Casio keyboards have drums starting around $100. |

Location: Scotland | Alesis SR16. Cheap, flexible, easy to use, great sounds, though maybe sound a little dated by current standards. The fact that this machine was introduced in the early 90's and is still in production says a lot. |

I have a Boss DR880 but before that I had the SR16 and it was really nice. |

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | Hi there WABCOL,The G-DEC has been mentioned a couple o´times,and it is by far the best solution imho, let us see now,a drum machine needs amplification ,that`l cost ya,the G-DEC has : drumloops..basslines..different guitar sounds and U can change the speed of the drums..there are 2 models,a 15 watts and a 30 watts version,both have headphone connection,now..the price of a G-DEC 15 watts will cost ya about as much as a drum machine,and it is possible to "upgrade them " plus ; it is very easy to use,actually it`s self-explanatory,and the 30 watts costs only slightly more,I ve got the 15 watts version, so know it well,oh,and it sounds Pretty Good check out the Fender web site,and then try one,U might be positively surprised,remember,it`s a Fender they make Good Stuff , I doubt if U `ll be disappointed ;)
