I got an Elite Russian Ltd, the 1st E at anything over the second fret sounds out of tune, i noticed on my Adamas the saddle has a sort of stepped arrangement for the 1st and 6th string to compensate for intonation.
The only problem is that this Adamas saddle cannot be used on the elite, reason being is that the saddle angle going from 1st to 6th string is shallower on the elite, so the Adamas saddle will also make the intonation out as well on the 1st and 6th strings.
Is there a stepped saddle to suit an Elite?

did you try changing the string? I know this is obvious but sometimes it works.

I had a Pinnacle Series that did the same thing about a month after I got it. I had the saddle adjusted by an Ovation Tech. Man only to find out that the neck was the problem. You might want to have it professionally checked.

Thanks,
I think ill take Al`s advice on this one, the neck seems fine and all is as it should be, except for that damn 1st string, its just a suggestion, but for a supposed top of the range acoustic, hows about Kaman comming up with adjustable sadles just like an electric?Would make em just about perfect
:D

Acoustic guitar intonation will always be a compromise. A few companies have tried adjustable brigdes on acoustics and they always sound like crap. It's less of a problem to intonate a guitar when the bridge saddle doesn't actually contain the pickup elements, but even then, a well intonated acoustic guitar saddle will only be accurate for a specific string gauge and action. It's the nature of the beast & something we have to live with. Knackered strings are the biggest culprits for an otherwise well set-up guitar that wont play in tune.

Problem is now sorted, it was a rogue new string that was dead :D
I hear what you say Paul ,about diam/length of string affecting intonation, so a compromise has to be met,i checked mine thouroughly, and its better than any other acoustics ive owned, that dead string was throwing me
