Thanks to stonge for the tip:

Finally found a 1988 Collector's Edition on eBay. It's a little dinged up but it closed at $465. I'm a happy camper.

Just sharing...

The C. C. DeVille model!
He was in the ad that year (along with a great 58 Olds convertable!)
Enjoy it!

Thanks guys!

And again thanks to stonge!!! He rules! He is responsible for more of my collection than I can keep track of.

C.C. DeVille?? That is too funny! Not quite the vibe I'm after... Then again, I have pretty much considered the '88 the "shredder Ovation" ever since I noticed all those frets. :)

(Hey Al, do you think I should get the fretboard scalloped?)

I have a warmoth scallopped tele neck and I am looking to put it together with a chandler tele body that I have maybe a lipstick dano pickup or a p 90 or maybe a charlie christian pu and then maybe a hot rails in the bridge. I have not determined what bridge I want to you BUT I have a hip shot b bender that is just screaming for something to do. sperzels for the tuners...now if I only had the time to put it together... I think I may have to farm this project out.

oh and to answer your question GO FOR IT

Thanks Al, if you come accross another let me know. A bender guitar is a major part of my style & I've used just about every B-bender on the market, including the Parsons-White, one of Jim Glaser's triple benders & the Tokai/Brooks bender. My favourite was designed & built by a friend of mine & is similar to the Parsons-White except that the routs are much smaller & the pulling finger is hidden under the bridge. Al Perkins borrowed my old Tele on a recent UK tour & has commissioned one of my friend's benders as a result. A few years ago I changed to Ovation solids exclusively for stage work so the Hipshot was the only option. I love them, I couldn't go back to a strap-activated bender now. The hipshot is just so simple, plus it's interchangable between guitars, and doesn't involve any invasive woodwork. The only change I made on the Viper 3 on which it is installed is that I had an engineer friend make a replica bridge saddle with an integral roller, which really helps the stability of the pitch return.

Since I have no style (ask Miles he has me on tape) I am just doing this as a lark. I borrowed the Will Ray video and found it very interesting. I have no clue if I will be able to include it in my playing or not but if it does not work out for me I will let you know.
I played Darc's Hamer with the scalloped fingerboard and decided that I had to have a guitar with one but of course I take it to the Nth degree.
If the beast ever gets together I will post a picture of it.

Hipshot, scallops, locking tuners, and oddball pickups!!! Sounds like the coolest tele EVER!!! You HAVE to build this guitar...

(...and then lend it to me.)

I'm getting a little nervous about my new acquisition. The eBay seller has not responded to my e-mails... Call me old fashioned, but when money is about to change hands I read my e-mails frequently.
