I just watched a video tape of a Simon & G. concert in Central Park. (I,m not sure of the date but it was a reunion and I think their last.) Anyhow Paul Simon was playing a beautiful Ovation acoustic with a dark shiny top, obviously wood, with a deep body and nice trim on body and neck. It looked like he had another Ovation behind him for backup with natural wood finish. The sound was very naturally acoustic, reminiscent of their recordings. It looked like he was playing it through an amp about the size of a Fender Twin and miking it into the PA system. My question is, does anyone know if that was a standard factory setup or was it modified? It sure was a good example of an Ovation as an amplified acoustic, it looked like there were 500,000 people at the concert and they were hearing vintage S&G. Also in the band was a rythym player with what looked like an Adamas, but no Ovation solid body electrics (this is what I alwas look for).

PS I typed this once and hit Esc and it all disappeared, is this normal?

That concert (1981) was what got me hooked on Ovation.

That black guitar Paul was playing was a Custom Legend and he also used a Glen Campbell model on one song.

A Bluegreen Adamas II was used by the other guitarist (I think his name was Eric Carr)and it also sounded great.

Watching it today, the sound still stacks up and back then there was nothing that came close.

Now if they could only talk to each other. It's sad to see when great musicians get distracted by money matters to a point they can barely perform if at all. S & G barely made eye contact throughout the whole show. I heard rumoour that Art was just paid a salary to show up. Paul looked like he really was trying to have fun too. Never really heard what the riff between them was all about.

The reason I enjoyed the concert is that I was young in San Diego, CA when The Graduate came out, the first movie to feature this type of a musical theme, as it did with S & G, (most movies had orchestral themes, and here was these beautiful vocals and a guitar)it was an experience that is hard to describe, seeing Dustin Hoffman cruising those freeways to the tunes of S & G and we were living there and could cruise the freeways with S & G on our radio (we didn't have tape players in the cars), and it was just as beautiful as it seemed in the movie. Many million people moved in and ruined it, so we left.

I forgot to ask, were you there at the concert? I visited Central Park in 1954 on my way to the Sikorsky helicopter plant in Bridgeport CT for the US Army, I was suitably impressed for an Ohio country boy. Loved Fifth Ave! Loved New York!

No Bailey unfortunately I wasn't.

Except for the fact that I was fifteen at the time and living in Australia I would've been there!!

I did see them on their reunion tour in Australia in 1982 and it still ranks as the best concert I've ever seen.

Pure Magic...

I have also visited NYC a few times and always had great time.

I just wish they would release Concert In Central Park on DVD.

Favorite is the Live mothers 71 album and then the Plastic Ono Mothers the bonus LP that came with John Lennon;s sometime in NY city LP.

" So is that a real roundback or a SEARS roundback?"
