Hey everyone, this is my very first post on this board. Very cool place from what I've seen so far!

I am currently about to form a hard rock band which will probably sound like Soundgarden, the Melvins, and Kyuss mixed together with some acoustic stuff for some songs. I play a really crappy knockoff guitar right now because I have spent all of my money on my amp on distortion, but I finally have enough money to buy a new guitar now! My question: Would the Preacher suit my playing style? I've been trying to find a guitar that sounds awesome and looks unique, (and thats how I stumbled across this site, incidentally).

Any help and info would be greatly appreciated!

Usually Al or Miles would welcome you to the board, and I am sure they will when they are available. I just want to tell you that you are on the right track, but you have to know, an Ovation deacon will not be a "new" guitar,(they don't make them anymore) but it will be the unique and top quality guitar that you want if you can get one, and I think you can for less than what you would pay for some of the schlock that is touted in the guitar magazines as signature this or that. Once you get a good guitar, the awsomeness will have to come from you. Work on your songs, remember music is not licks, it is songs, whole songs, once you start playing songs you will hear that sound that we live for, applause, screams, etc. Play like you would like to hear if you had to buy a ticket. Work, work, work, then work some more on your songs, the rewards are just as you see but it is not easy.

Hey zach welcome to the board.
Miles has more ovation solid body guitars than one person should be allowed.
When he is back from visiting a mouse in fla I am sure he can best help you out.

Zach,
If you decide not to get an Ovation solid get a Hamer, USA of course.

The pickups on the Preacher are fine for clean, clean-ish & medium-gain tones, but are a little too polite & also slightly microphonic for anything real heavy & high-gain. So if you're a triple-rectifier, mid-scoop, all the way to eleven, distorto-monster from hell, then go with Bill's suggestion & check out the Hamers. Or find an Ovation UK2, They're suberb instruments and they'll do the clean thing, the bluesy thing & the mental thing without a problem, & I beleive Miles has one available right now.

Are the pickups of the Preacher similar to what the Ultra GP has, by any chance? I really want one of those, but I don't have the money or time to hunt one down, so I'm settling for another Ovation.

Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question, but I really don't know too much about Ovations at this point, except that they are awesome to play!

The Preacher pickups were designed & built by Ovation. The Ultra GP used high-output DiMarzio humbuckers. The UK2 pickups are closer to the Dimarzios.

Thanks for all of the info everyone, I really appreciate it! I think I'll get a UK2 now from what I've heard from Paul.
