I'm currently considering purchasing the Ovation Viper. It seems there are two separate Vipers -- one is the "CV68" which is available in black and honeyburst, and the "EA68" (steel string) and "EA63" (nylon-string), which are available in natural and black (natural only for nylon model). The Ovation literature says the CV68 has a spruce top, the EAs have the solid spruce top. Otherwise, everything else seems identical. I believe the price for the CV is $800 or so, and for the EAs $2000 or so. Does anyone out there know why there's such a big price difference? In terms of tonal and structural quality, would I be happy with the CV68? Also, does the EA63 come with the slotted headstock since it is a nylon-string model? Anyone has a pic of one of these babes?
Hope to hear from those in the know in this club! |

Thanks for those clarifications. Ovation's website does NOT have a pic of the EA63 Viper. I understand that it is custom-order. There is one on ebay right now! Ironic timing! |

Not being sceptical... just curious. It was my understanding that the only Natural was actually a prototype that was made... and.. uh err I have it. |

I've seen maybe 5 of these go by on eBay over the last couple of years. I believe that they are made to special order, but they are made. |
