| I have an '82 Model 1617 in perfect condition except the preamp was manhandled (torn off the screw-connector) by the last person to change the battery and now there is an off and on, static-like output. Lesson..never loan out your guitar. My question....has anyone ever updated their preamp or replaced their existing one through Ovation and if so what kind of costs would I be looking at. I am the original owner and am probably registered with Ovation (not that that would make any difference)Also the proverbial question...what is it worth?(trying to justify the expense of getting the preamp working) |

Try a search on "preamp", I recall two or three discussions of replacing or upgrading preamps. I think the cost wasn't too high. Good Luck.

Location: 6 String Ranch | The first step should be call the factory and talk to Keller or Budney. Maybe you don't want them to do it but they'll give you a good reference point of cost and feasability and parts availability. They will probably be expensive but it will also be done "to factory specs". It's a good starting point from which to check out other options. There are good repair guys around the country who can do great work, sometimes better sometimes quicker sometimes cheaper. Hope this helps you make an better informed decision. |

Location: SoCal | I've got a repair guy out here in California who is Ovation authorized. He'll put an OP24 X in my old Country Artist (along with an external battery access) for $200. Of course, now my money is going towards finding a new pick guard for my old Viper... |

| Thanks for all the responses. Right now I am just using it as a non electric acoustic but will soon be getting in a Praise and Worship group and sure would like to be "amplified".I'll give the factory a call. Thanks again guys. |
