Hello all,
I'm a new guy on the block and have a basic question. After not playing for 20 plus years I dug out the old Lyle and decided after a couple days to get serious. I have decided to either buy a Tangent or a 35th Anniversary model with a Fender Acoustasonic Jr. amp.

Any opinions on these two guitars and what type of strings do you suggest? I'm just your basic strum along player now but look forward to learning to pick, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

What was the 35th Anniversay model? I can't remember. Not remembering, I'd still take it over a Tangent. It's got to be a better quality guitar. No contest.

I tried a 35th anniversary in Mandolin Bros last week, it's a commemorative Balladeer, pretty basic, mid bowl I think, sounded & played fine. It's US built, the Tangent isn't. I forgot to check my snobbery at the door. I tried a Tangent at Ivor Mairants in London, it sucked donkey balls, to quote Eric Cartman.

Having never seen either I can say absolutly that the 35th is better. The Tangent is a steaming runny pile of dog spoo on your new carpet. Oh, and it's ugly too.

After all the flack of the Tangent, I couldn't believe I still saw them at NAMM... When I asked how they could still be selling them. "they are no longer a 4 and 2 headstock, now they are 2 and 4 headstock" LOL, I just think that's one of the funniest things I have heard, and at the moment thought it was a joke... it was not.. It looks like they just put "lefty" headstocks on them. For what it's not worth, I would have thought a regular Ovation headstock, maybe aluminum neck, would make it interesting for that.

Now it's a "2 and 4 Headstock" that's rich.. I'm sure glad I have "an original" Tangent :)

Miles,
You might want to salt that original away. In 30 years in might be worth something,GOL (gag out loud) Sure is good they changed it to a 2 and 4. Does that mean it's 2 fingers then 4 fingers down the throat?

It's actually two fingers in one orifice and four in the other (you can use your OWN discretion as to which is which)!

You know, they probably switched it to 2/4 to avoid problems with Sterling Ball (Music Man).
It still stands, if your name isn't Teisco or Ball you shouldn't do that.
