Hello, Can anyone help me with information about my '68 Thunderhead. The factory couldn't so they directed me to you. Does anyone have a wiring schematic for this guitar? What function does each position of the 3way toggle switch on the upper bout perform? In an early 70's brochure it list this as a phase switch. And finally, I have observed that on the Thunderheads that Glen Campbell played, the rotary knob pick-up selector switch on the lower bout was replaced with a toggle switch similar to the one on the upper bout. Does anyone have information about this modification? Any information would be appreciated.

The only advice I can offer is:
don't let "moodypi" con you out of your guitar!

I never "con" people out of things. That's just not me (unless I really want them, in which case all bets are off).

I've noticed that about the THead Glen played as well and have always been curious. I've got a 1969 catalog which has the THeads in it, but there is no wiring diagram. I can, if you'd like fax you a copy of the page in the catalog.

By the by, what color is your THead and are you looking to sell it (or donate it... often times, being self employed, I feel like a non profit organization).

Here is the info you requested on the 3 way swith on the upper bout of the Thunderhead:

It is called a phaser/standby switch and is a 3 position toggle.

In the Up position. The polarity between the pickups is reversed by 180 degrees out of phase. The result is a near-cancellation of bass frequincies and an increase in treble. The BALANCE or BLEND control must be in the phaser operating range(+6 to -6)maximum effectiveness is acheaved when the BALANCE or BLEND control is set at "0" center..

Center position: The thunderhead now works like any other guitar exept that the BALANCE or BLEND control selects which pickup is heard..

Down:The Thunderhead is now off or on standby and can be set down without feedback or hum..

Hi, don't know for sure but since the extra toggle on Glen's Thunderhead was where the blend switch normally is, it would be logical to think that it was simply a regular three-way pickup selector switch for the pickups instead of "blending" them.
I wonder where thes guitar is now?

I'n in London at the moment visiting friends & have just returned from trawling the West End guitar dealers. One dealer has a blonde Thunderhead in very tidy condition with particluarly nicely figured back & sides. This example has a mini-switch where a volume/blend knob should be, but the switch looks recent, so it's probably a later mod. The dealer was asking £1100!!!!! (about $16/1700) These guitars aren't common over here as they were never imported, including this one & my own Tornado I've seen 3 in the UK in 25 years, but £1100!!!!? The silly thing is, because of who & where they are, they'll probably get it.

Another dealer had a tatty mid-70's electro-Artist priced at £1200!!!!!! I just laughed my "what kind of drugs are you on?" laugh & walked out.
