Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | I am so proud of my OVations, that I keep them on display in my home all the time. My question is, is it O.K. to keep them on a standard guitar stand (tripod style) and strung to tune, so they are ready to go at my every whim? Or, am I better off putting them in their case and taking the pressure off the strings? I'm not to worried about them being bumped around, but am more concerned about causing warping problems.
I've heard conflicting opinions on taking string pressure off. I 've heard it can cause backbowing and thus string buzzing, but I've always believed it was the right thing to do, to keep pressure off the bridge and neck. I do keep my guitars tuned to D#, so the tension is not great anyway.
Anyway, as long as I keep the humidity up this winter, and keep them out of direct sunlight, I would like to continue to have my O's out where they can be enjoyed. Whatchall think?

I leave about 4-5 guitars out on one of those warwick stands for my whim. One is my D'andelico. Guitars were made to be used if they are going to warp they will warp as easily in the case as they would out of it. IMHO. |

I've got five Ovations on stands around the house. As long as they are not being knocked over they should be fine. |

Perhaps it's time to start showing off my Winchester collection!!!!

In my house in CT I had 40 wall hooks and 30 stands, full (yes this is excessive, I know, I'm better now. I only have one out but it's a much smaller house and I'm in the jet fuel business, or was). My father never kept a guitar in a case, ever. Except when they went to the basement and that was like a life term in prison for the gitter, they hardly ever came back.
A guitar that's played is less likely to go out of adjustment and when it does you're on it right away.(or else it goes to the basement for the batteries to rot!)
Get good stands and make sure the rubber won't attack the finish on the neck.
These are playable art you know. |
