I had the pleasure of attending the Paul McCartney concert last night in Milwaukee. It is the first concert I've gone to in a very, very long time. I just have to say it was fantastic. We were about 20 rows back, slightly behind the stage. The great thing was Paul seems to have a habit of turning to his right all the time so we got great looks at him. His current band is great, especially his drummer.

Paul was in great voice and one could tell he was having a fun time. My sister went to his last concert in Chicago and said that this time he talked and joked with the audience a lot more. He also played "She's Leaving Home" live for the very first time. He also played tribute to John and George.

We were on the side where Paul keeps his guitars. No Ovations this time. Funny thing, my wife is getting a lot better at distinguishing guitars. A couple of years ago she went home to the Philippines and while there told me that she bought me a hand-made guitar from Cebu. What she ended up buying was a cheap, unplayable, plywood wall decoration. Now, after accompanying me to music stores, she at least spots Martin guitars, which is what Paul was playing. She did wonder why he would switch guitars between songs (different tunings). And his last acoustic song was "Yesterday" which he used, for the only time that night, an Epiphone.

All in all, a great night! I got my ticket for my 50th birthday last week, had to buy my wife's.

Well worth every cent! Just had to share.

Happy 50th Bradley

Sorry you didn't see any Ovations, but it sounds like you had a good time and that's what counts. I hope you see 50 more.

Happy CINQUENTA!!! (did I get that right, Russ?)

Glad you enjoyed McCartney.
I had the chance to catch "Sir Paul" last April
out on Long Island. Great Show!!

I particularly liked his homage to George by
playing "Something" on the ukelele that George had given him.

Gee, this is pretty good.

Now I'm not feeling AS old and decrepit as I once did!

Norse;

Try TicketMaster (or whatever the geographical Internet ticket site near you is). I was able to get a pair of tickets on Thursday afternoon for a Sunday show (in New York!). They weren't great seats, but with his huge video screens and phenomenal sound system, there won't be a "bad seat" in the house. Sometimes your BEST BET is to look for two seats that might not be together. A lot of times there may be an odd seat in a really good section that hasn't been taken.

Either way, it's WORTH a try!

Thanks for the info. Cliff, but actually I meant I couldn't make it even if I had tickets. Too many irons in the fire right now between my job, coaching football, family events, and keeping my sanity!

I'll play Blackbird on the ol Ovation with my eyes closed and be there in spirit.

Thanks to everyone for those birthday greetings.

I had a co-worker go to see Paul last night in Chicago. She had the same praise about the concert as I. She thought the drummer was fantastic. She was amazed at the way Paul could play for 3 hours straight without a break. She said with the acts today you're lucky to get an hour. But then again, as Paul's guitarist said, "The great thing about working in this band is that there is NEVER a shortage of material"

Hey Norseman1 - got any good guitar tabs for Blackbird. I was watching Paul's hand and he is definately doing something other that the way I've seen it on guitar tabs. While watching I heard the older gentleman comment to his wife "I think he's using an open-G tuning".

Thank's again

Bradly:
I learned how to play Blackbird in high school. A while back, I found in a guitar magazine, a transciption of the tune. It was played differently, but only in positions. The notes were all the same. No special tuning. I'll let you know if I can find it and I'll shoot it out to you.

In high school, if you were cool, you either learned Blackbird, or Highway To Heaven. I was never a hard rocker.

Hey Bradley!

I learned Blackbird a loooong time ago from watching my lead guitarist. I don't have tabulature for the song, but I think I've seen it at the local music store in a Hal Leonard Guitar Solo series. Next time I stop in, I'll check it out to see if it looks good. Beautiful song (when played right anyway)! The beatles came up with some amazing music didn't they?!

There's tab for it in the last issue (or MAYBE the one previous) of Guitar World Acoustic.

If I find it, I'll send you a .pdf of it.

It's one song I've always should've learned, but never did. I still get the remarks "YOU don't know how to play BLACKBIRD!?" I guess it's never too late.

Anybody ever hear the Crosby, Stills, & Nash version? Same great guitar work (ala Mr. Stills) with those unmistakeable CSN harmonies.
