Hi - I am a new Ovation user - I just fell in love with an Elite in a shop in London and bought it in a hurry - forgot to ask the shop any quetions about it.

The guitar I bought is an Elite 1768 and the preamp on it bears the legend - OP-X. I bought it because of the acoustic sound and I am a total novice when it comes to amplifying electro-acoustics (I have played electrics for years).

May be stupid questions but - what have I got in way of a pre-amp, what is the best way to use the pre-amp and what are the controls for?

I understand the gain control and I assume the push button for eq in/out switches the equaliser in or out of the circuit. Likewise there is a notch control and knob. Got to do first gig with it tomorrow night putting it straight through a pa and I haven't got a clue what I am doing. Help!

Also I don' t know much about the construction of the guitar, materials etc (sounds real nice though!)

The OP-X is basically the optima without the tuner & XLR output. The feedback notch is very useful & effective. An amplified acoustic guitar will usually have 2 frequencies which are very prone to feedback (these are the resonant frequencies of the top & the body) The notch filter is a very narrow bandwith sweep equaliser with a range of around 70-700Hz. By making the guitar feedback & rotating the notch you can zap one of these feedback points without screwing-up your tone too much. A set of Ovation Airlocks will help also. I have a spare OP-X/Optima manual which you are welcome to, send me your address & I'll put it in the post.

Paul
