I recently aquired my bass by chance and was in a position to afford it.
I've been looking at acoustic bass guitars for about 2-1/2 years and my waiting paid off last weekend. I am overjoyed at the wonderful tone these instruments have. I've been locked away for while just playing and I don't have enough words how happy this instance. is for me! thanx. Stik

One of my best buddies is the guitarist in "The Stranglers" who at least in the UK & Europe are Punk icons. He called me a few days ago to say that Stranglers main man & bassist JJ Burnel was intending to tour with his Elite bass but was having feedback problems & could I help. I suggested some Airlocks and a pre-amp upgrade to an Optima, and put JJ in touch with my contact at Ovation's UK distributor, JHS. So hopefully JJ will be touring an Elite bass, and if it's good enough for the Stranglers...

The bass player in my band has a Viper bass for our acoustic shows & that is a killer instrument.

I've been hoping this subject would come up, there hasn't been much about basses on the board and they are an essential part of any band. So much so that I've always advised anybody if they want to work and be in demand, learn to play bass, if you just want to show off play anything else. I bought an electric bass and got my oldest son to play it (he was a good guitar player also}. He wasn't totally happy but he was playing in mine and other bar bands and getting paid when he was 16 years old. I've seen Ovation acoustic basses and wondered how they sounded in a band.

I too have wondered why the Ovation basses did not take off a little more. There sure are a lot of them out there, and people still play them today. Although the Magnum I and II are not everyones cup-o-java because of the shape and weight, the Magnum 3's and 4's are more "standard." looking and all four are superior in sound and playability to similar or higher price instruments in almost every way.
If that's not enough, the PF-22 Bass is basically the same in a lighter version of the 3/4 but with a set-neck. Every bass player I have talked too that has played one of these either still has it, sorry they gave theirs up, or makes me an offer.

Hey, speaking of Basses, my youngest daughter (16) wants to learn how to play Bass guitar. What should I look for in a good Beginners Bass guitar? I don't know a thing about them.
