Welcome Wally....

There are alot of Ovation type tech wizards down there... Maybe you can hook-up.

But I would think that you could get 'thin-line' pick-up under the saddle, and a single or stacked knob pre-amp. That would be three holes in the bowl... One for the knob, one for the jack, and one to hold-in the battery. Plus a teeny hole in the saddle-slot.

You could get the whole rig from Ovation or off of eBarf. That is if you are the Luthier-type. If you want to have it professionally done you can send it to the Mothership, or one of your local members could recommend a shop in your neighborhood.

You might wanna wait for better advice, too...

Welcome to the OFC! My main guitar for 35 years (see recent post about bracing) has been a 1117 all-acoustic Legend. Only a few years ago I went ahead and installed a FISHMAN PREFIX PRO . This pickup and EQ is superb. Powerful as all get out and phenomenally dynamic. I recommend it whole-heartedly!!

Ovation Thinline with an Ovation FD14 endpin preamp. Had this installed into a '68 Josh White.

I have a question about pickups too if you don't mind me asking here. I have a 1971 1111-4 and I had a Martin Thinline (First Generation) under-saddle pickup put in back in the seventies. I haven't used it in a long time plugged in but found that it no longer works. I can't remember if it was put in before it fell in a river or after ;) There's no pre-amp, it goes through a single braided wire to the input jack. I've spent hours searching but I can't find a single photo of the proper way to re-solder the wire to the jack so I hope someone can here can tell me. The braid is almost impossible to strip, especially without cutting through the insulation of the inner wire about the thickness of a hair. I'll try doing it again if someone can see by the photo where to attach the wire and I apologize first for the sloppy soldering job, maybe that's the problem.

G'day Wally. I can't offer you any technical advice. I just play guitar but I dunno what makes them work. Just wanted to say welcome to the OFC. Hope you can stick around.

There are a few Aussies in your neck of the woods -- couple in Brissy and one up near Noosa so maybe you'll be able to get in touch with them and they can point you in the right direction.

Hi Wally,

Welcome to the OFC.

What part of Bris are you?

As you can see my O's are electrics or Adamas.

I can't help you much with advice in this case but know an excellent luthier that I'm sure could help you.

But the best advice is certainly here.

Cheers AJ

More Aussies!! They're falling out of the woodwork. Welcome. Don't forget to follow the social club link at the top of the page and join the Downunder group. You'll need to register separately for that.

Welcome Wally!

If the piezo just connects to the jack then I am certain that Braided part is the ground.

Go to Ebay and search "Fishman" or "LR Baggs" and you will find a Bzillion pickups and gadgets.

If you get enough Aussies together maybe you can do something about the shipping limitations!

I should say G'day Wally too, and sorry for hijacking your thread. My first generation Martin Thinline pickup is toast after a few decades but although I haven't used either on my 'antique' Balladeer I think that the newer Martin Thinline 332 and the Fishman under-saddle pickups would be good bets. Hope yours lasts as long as mine.
