What was extra nice was the Queens of the Stone Age don't use much in the way of effects. So although I'm not a big fan of their material, the tune they did sounded like it was written to show off that axe. If you listened carefully you could here kids all over town saying "hey... what was that crazy guitar he was playing?.. it sounded so full and raw and I think he was just plugged straight into his amp!!!!" Maybe it's time for a re-issue?

I've been wondering what options this guitar had bridge wise.. The one's that I've seen have those wraparound bridges. But neither of Josh's do. He has the black one with a tune-o-matic and then that sunburst is string through body. I haven't seen his red one..

Before you even get to the pickups, The Viper has a huge solid brass bridge, and a bolt-on neck. The GP is a set-neck, with a tun-o-matic style bridge and stop tail. Right there you are talking different handling, and sustain characteristics. The Viper pickups are single coils, but more like Seymour Duncan sounding.. Very Hot and very punchy. What's nice is you can back off the Vol, and get a really nice strat or tele sound. If you drop to the neck pickup, at Full VOl you can get that Les Paul neck pickup effect, and back off a little and it goes more like a 335 depending on where the tone is set too. You get the idea. The GP plays and acts more like a LesPaul or PRS or Hamer... More a traditional sound of a those guitars also. When it comes time to only have a few Ovation guitars, they will be a Viper, a GP, a UKII and a PF-22 and probably a Breadwinner tho I don't play them much they are just cool.

I guess the sound I am looking for will require a GP, I generally play and record with a Les Paul Studio....80's......and late 70's Les paul custom.............I like the big deep tones....big sustain......generally set on the neck pick up......I use an old tube sunn base head...(1500s)...with a 2 x15" and a 4x 12" cab. I plan to bid on the Uk II on ebay right now as well, the coil tap switchs on the pick ups look very cool. Drew

If you have one I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND TAKE IT FROM YOU (jk). I am seriously addicted to finding one, and if any of you think that you can just go find one and pick one up THINK AGAIN. You should probably go ahead and think of an alternative. If you don't know the difference between this and the other solidbodies then please don't bother because there are many out there who do and probably deserve the guitar more.

Just Kidding.. I'm seriously jealous now. yep started looking in 92 and I've only seen one in person and that was Josh's at the Queens concert in Austin. Still have never played one. A little background: I do tech support for Motorola and I pretty much get to surf the internet all day and look for them and I have only come across one for sale. If ANYONE out there is trying to sell one give me a ring.

I have one, and I have only seen 2 others on eBay, and two others I found in searches. There were a bunch made.. so someone has them. miles
