Location: Omaha, NE | Bill Hammond drove to Omaha this weekend for the first "Nowhere Span Jam"...our homage to the new footbridge crossing over the Missouri River from Omaha to Iowa.
The plan was to walk to the center of the bridge and play a 15 or 20 minute set. It went off swimmingly.
Here are some audio clips of us rehearsing at O'Connors Bar before the jam:
Nowhere Man : A more or less straight version of the Beatles song
Nowhere Span : Our modified version for the occasion
These were recorded with my Zoom H2.
Here's a shot of Bill and I and my daughter Lydia later that day at Scooter's Coffee Shop. That's me with my Koala. Bill brought his CA, which is a very lovely guitar, but I'll take the Koala!

Location: Boise, Idaho | The local GC has an Elite T with a scratch in the bowl paint. It is clearance priced for around $250. When I was in there last week this guy was looking for a guitar for his kid in the $200 range. The Elite sounded far better than anything he was trying, but they didn't seem at all interested. I figured a kid would think the bowl paint was cool, but he ended up looking at cheap classical guitars. His dad couldn't get over the lack of a center sound hole. As usual, the GC salesman was no help. What amazes me is these kids will go for the guadiest electric guitar, but want to go for the "traditional" acoustic guitar. |
