I heard that older ones are more desirable, especially Adamas. Is this correct? Better craftsmanship & wood used? Newer Adamas like SMT does not seem to sound acoustic at all when compared to older Adamas & Ovation.

I didn't get any chance to compare them. My 10+ years old Ovation already got cracks. This seems to be a common problem for Ovation. Is Ovation design inferior to other guitars??!

Older is (usually) always better, the snob appeal factor is much higher. The gitters have had a chance to age which is also good, especially if they've been played. The look of the wood changes, looking better. The older Adamii were built differently and sound somewhat different. You decide if it's better or not. There's nothing wrong with the new ones except the round hole model which is a complete pile of steaming dog spoo on your new carpet. Maybe part of it too is that you can't get them like the old ones anymore and we all want what we can't have. There is a positive perception (and probably not incorrect) about an instrument that has stood the test of time and won

They still mak'em in the custom shop.

I've got an old style 1697 Adamas on order which should be ready in a few weeks.

I think they should start to reissue some of their classic models starting with a slothead.

They've been around long enough now to have a "history".
