I've never seen my favorite artist with anything other than an Ovation, usually a 12 string. Most of his concerts over the last 15 years or so have been solo performances in small venues. he basically switched back & forth between the Ovation, or the piano, with a side order of harmonica. I don't know what model of Ovation he uses, but the front cover of his album "Learning to Flinch" shows said Ovation. Warren Zevon isn't known for his guitarmanship, he is more of a pianist, although his guitar was his primary instrument in solo performance. But he's not really even known for that. He also wrote great music, however it was his LYRICS that knocked everyone out like an impact weapon. IMHO, Zevon is probably the most prolific modern poet/lyricist spawned by America, whom is still living. Mr. Zevon has terminal lung cancer. Ironically, his CD before last was entitled "Life'll Kill Ya". Poetically, his new CD is entitled "My Ride's Here". Courageously, he went straight into the studio to record it upon learning of his condition. Word has it that he is still cranking out material. The list of artists that have recorded with him is quite impressive, as is the list of artists that have recorded his music. I understand that on at least the 1st few shows of his current tour, Bob Dylan is performing about 3 Zevon numbers per gig. I just wanted to pay a little tribute to my favorite die-hard Ovation player, whom might not be with us that much longer. Hope you didn't mind.

He's due to be on the Letterman show anytime now, may have been last night, did anyone see it? [ November 01, 2002: Message edited by: Paul Templeman ]

I lost a younger brother a few years ago to cancer and it is a tough thing. My brother was a top notch fiddle player and played up to the end, chemo, radiation, etc takes a lot out of the person and missing a few notes is not so bad considering the effort that it takes to keep on picking. You are doing a great thing to pay tribute to a person who is coping with cancer. Bailey [ November 02, 2002: Message edited by: Bailey ]

Joined: October 2002 Posts: 125 Location: Dallas | Thank you, Bailer - While I was cruising the net to find out about what models of Ovations Mr. Zevon uses, I found a site indicating a special on VH1. Anybody know anything about this? BTW, www.warrenzevon.com is good. The posted pics shot during the recording of "My Ride's Here", show him pale & gaunt. Not very promising. Sad indeed. I wish I had taken the opportunity to try & meet him in Dallas, but I always leave celebrities alone. They have morons a plenty coming up to them & saying dumbshit stuff. I wish I had made an exception when I had the chances. Thank you, again, Bailey & guys. This joint needs a chat function :(
