I'm not sure if this has been asked... but.. why "grape leaves" or whatever they really are? I love'em.. I think they look great... just wondered how they came about, why leaves?

The grapes and leaves seem to fit with the carvings and designs that were burned into the f/b. I think the ring (binding) had a similar pattern.

Chuck McDonough liked them and thought they fit and since he designed the aesthetics, he made it that way.

Chuck designed it and charlie didn't nix it.
