Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico | Does anyone know anything about a 9-string Ovation guitar? I played on one once in a shop in Knoxville a long time ago (1979). I'll try to explain how it was setup:
bottom three strings -> like a regular 6-string
top six-> doubled up like a 12-string
I thought it was a very neat instrument, but I can't find a stitch about it anywhere!
Anyone who knows anything about this instrument? Please send me a line at lyke@plk.af.mil! I would be interested in maybe buying one sometime, but for now I am just trying to prove that I am not hallicinating about this.

There goes your angst about having reached the (sigh) ultimate in Ovation collection. Your Holy Grail now has 9 strings (or 12 if the top 3 are doubles). No one else on this board appears to have one, BE THE FIRST ON YOUR BLOCK TO HAVE A 9 STRING. You now can be restored to happiness. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I once played an Alverez 9 string (God forgive me) that looked like a factory original. The G string was in unison, not octave like on a normal 12. It played like a 12 string but sounded like a 6 string with the treble 3 strings not quite in tune. It was at a guitar show. Dave |

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | The one and only 9 string Ovation that i have seen so far is a "Anniversary model" 9 string...Built between 1977-1982.........It was on e-bay a few months ago...I had also seen it at a guitar show about 2 years ago..... |

What reminded me was I saw Elvis playing one at this little coffee shop in town, when you see a 68 year old man swiveling his hips while grasping his walker and blue haired widows screaming orgasmically between hits of oxygen from their drag along tanks, it's easy to understand why he was banned from the waist down.

Location: NJ | Okay, okay, I KNOW that this is going WAY off topic, but since Al mentioned "sitar" in his last post and I just HAD to chime in:
Saturday night I had the opportunity to see Anoushka Shankar (Ravi's daughter) in concert at a small theatre in upstate New York. The only thing that can describe this woman's musical ability is "commensurate virtuosity"! Whoa!
To see this petite little 21-year-old Indian woman have such complete mastery of this complex instrument (that's only a LITTLE smaller than she is) was quite impressive!
While this type of music might not be for everyone, I thoroughly recommend catching a concert of hers if by chance she's performing nearby.

Location: 6 String Ranch | the 9 string was long before Rikki rey. Not sure we knew who it was for, it was through a dealer in colorado. It was an anniversary, red finish. They ran for about 10 years? This would have been around the middle of that time frame I'd guess. |
