I know this isn't the most objective place to post this question, but....

I'm sort of a beginning player with more money than skill and I recently bought a 1778T for my son for Christmas. I've played it at home a few times, and I'll be darned if it doesn't seem to sound richer, play nicer, and just plain seem like a finer feeling instrument than my $1700 Taylor 512 that I've had for about 8 months.

Am I missing something?

Nope, the Elite T's are getting rave reviews. The big sound of these guitars is probably to down the the extremely thin finish. Taylor are fine guitars if you like that kind of thing, but as I've said before, a famous name & a high price doesn't always mean a great guitar. Evaluate an instrument with your ears & hands, not your bank balance.

yesterday Miles and I came home from the philly guitar show on my step was a shipping box inside an elite T Miles opened the box while I read e mail and took phone messages.
before I got back into the room to play it he was raving about how well it sounded asked how much I wanted and seriously thought of buying or trading for it on the spot.
I will agree way more guitar than it should be for that price

I was quite surprised... I already thought it was a nice guitar. I had some concern about the one I saw and heard at Summer NAMM. I liked the tone, but was a little unsure if I was happy with the fit and finish. Let me assure you.. the fit and finish is flawless. I think it's the prefect progression for the person that wants something more than an entry level, wants something Made in the USA, but can't afford an Adamas.

I've been playing this Elite T for 4 days now and this is a revelation for me. My son may not get his Christmas present ;)

I'm thinking of shedding my Martin and Taylor; who needs them!!!

Thanks for the feedback!

We had some long and interesting discussions of the Elite T after Alpep revealed it to us at a NAMM show. You might want to try a search on "Elite T" and see the various opinions it elicited at the time. My opinion has always been that it is a step by Ovation in the right direction, when other manufacturers are charging multi thousand prices for mediocer American made acoustic guitars, this guitar has a price that puts it in reach of the average buyer and appears to have American made quality and sound.

We need a spell checker, I can't remember how "medioker" is spelled.

Well AlpeD, now that you've had it a few days, can you put it down and give us a review? ;)

Well I guess I can do that....

I find that the guitar sounds great!!! really much better than it should for the price. I am not sure if it is the maple neck or just the overall design but the guitar has a fantastic acoustic sound. Plugged in I find the new preamps the same as the old just modular.

I am not a big fan of the bowl painted top but that is aesthetic and I also like the epaulets that are missing on the T.

Currently I am undecided on the sound holes on the bass side only but I guess you cannot argue with something that sounds good.

Overall I think these are far superior sounding instruments than the celebrity series althought you have to be into the plain jane looks.

As soon as I figure out if Miles is going to take this one home or not it may be going up for sale.
