Richardd, Fingerboard, you're better off with ebony even though it's not like the original. They're probably not impregnating the walnut anymore or even using the material for fingerboards. Frankly ebony is better (looking, feeling, sounding), let it be a mistake (oversite) that worked in your favor.

Glad to hear you are happy with your guitar. Just an opinion from someone (me) that worked in sawmills as a kid. Walnut is pretty in color and grain but it does not have the density and hardness of ebony by a long shot. When you have had your guitar for 30 or more years as I have some of mine, you will be patting yourself on the back that your finger board isn't worn out like some of those walnut ones.

Thanks Bailey, I remember the walnut board on my old Adamas used to get very dry all the time and it certainly never had the feel of ebony.

There are a couple of other things that I've noticed about this new Adamas that are different from my 90's model.

Firstly, it doesn't have that smoother pickguard area and the top doesn't have a sheen like the old one.
Also the texture on the back is a little more textured and like the top it has more of a matt finish.

I think one of the factory guys posted that the company was planning on reissuing the 1687 & 1688.

Can anyone elaborate?

After 2O years of alot of playing, the walnut fingerboard on my Adamas has held up well. I must admit tho, there are many times when I had thought what my black Adamas would look like with an ebony fingerboard. That would be very nice indeed...Paul Hebert

Paul,

I am certainly enjoying this guitar, I find it hard to put down.

To me this is finally the acoustic guitar that has it all.

1.Rich acoustic tone
2.Sounds natural plugged in
3.Excellent playability/setup
4.Versatile electronics
5.Tough as an old boot
6.Beautiful to behold

Please forgive my rantings.

I was nervous about ordering this guitar sight unseen but this Adamas has exceeded my expectations!

There was some discussion in this thread on whether Ovation has a custom shop. I'm unsure what the "correct" answer is generally speaking, but my understanding is that Adamas I and II models continue to be hand made in a separate area of the shop.
