Location: Kaneohe, Hawaii | Just bought a new 1868T and thought I would say aloha from Hawaii. This is a very helpful forum (it helped me decide to buy the 1868T, actually), and I have a question.
When I need to restring, I'm considering dropping to 11's rather than the stock 12's. I generally play electrics strung at 9 and 10, so the 12s are a challenge. Of course, the way I play, a kazoo would be a challenge!
Will I have problems with the nut and/or neck/truss rod adjustment if I drop from 12s to 11s? For the record, if I do this, I will probably go with the D'Addario EXP's, just one gauge lower.
Mahalo (thank you) for your help! |

Location: SoCal | You shouldn't have any trouble at all. The guitar can handle either string well. I've been known to bounce between light and medium gauge strings and my Ovations are just fine with that. No adjustments needed.
Congrats on the new guitar. When the Elite T first came out, I was disappointed with the look. 100% of what I have read about it has been positive. That is very encouraging. |

Another question for someone. I have e-mailed Ovation, but perhaps someone here knows.
The 1868T, according to the website, uses the model 8158 case, which is for mid-depth bowls. Because of the website, I bought this case with my guitar.
I later looked at all of the other shallow-bodied USA Ovations on the website, and they all use the 8117/9117 case. Is this a misprint on the Ovation site or is there something about the T-series that necessitates the larger bowl depth case? The case depth is clearly more than needed for the guitar, and I certainly don't want to damage my new baby!
Thanks in advance for your comments |

Location: SoCal | On this, I don't know. You bought a supershallow bowl guitar, and should have purchased a supershallow bowl case, not a mid depth one. Anybody here have any ideas on this? |

Location: Kaneohe, Hawaii | Just for the record, Ovation got back to me (VERY quickly - one working day!) and said that the website was wrong. As Moody said, the 8117/9117 case is correct, FWIW.
Mr. Ovation, you got me thinking about a Matsumoto Shave Ice so I went over to Haleiwa and got one on Saturday morning (bean included). Mahalo for the reminder! |
