Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | Hello everyone. I recently picked up a Custom Balladeer, and I wonder if anyone can tell me more about it. It has an off white finish, black neck and headstock with ebony fingerboard. FET 3 preamp, chrome schaller tuners. It is a model # 1712 Custom Balladeer, and its serial number is 411332. I believe it was made in 1990. Was this an unusual Custom Balladeer. What a nice guitar. Not a scratch on it. Any info on this model would be appreciated. Thanks....Paul Hebert |

You pretty much described it all! It sounds like you have the white finish with black neck which was not all that popular compared to the other color choices, but personally I think it is stunning. Especially under stage lights.

According to the OFC reference section the 1612 Custom Balladeer was made from 76-84 and the 1712 was made from 85-94. But I must say I'm a little confused by the model numbers. A 1112 would be the non-cutaway acoustic custom balladeer and the 1612 would be the acoustic electric version. But it sounds to me like your 1712 is the acoustic electric version. But anyway, I know for sure that the white finish was not offered in all these years. It's pretty difficult to nail down exactly what colors were offered in what years. In fact looking at a 1976 catalog it says the custom balladeer was offered in natural, sunburst, and RED. Interesting. Anyway, the important thing is that you have a great guitar on your hands and I'm sure you get plenty of enjoyment out of it.
Enjoy, Dave |

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | Thanks Dave for the information. I remember seeing a red Custom Balladeer. I thought that was pretty nice looking. I really lucked out with this guitar. It sat for years with no one playing it. I cleaned it up, changed the strings and battery, and feel in love with it! |
