Thanks for the idea, Dobro. This ought to be good for a few totally OT laughs. Mine? I hurled big time on a crowded standing-room only RTD bus while heading into Los Angeles in the car pool lane one awful morning, then had to stand in it for the next 20 minutes while everybody around me got the dry heaves trying to ignore the mess.

Lets limit this to music or guitars. I have too many other low points, even if we just stay on the hurling topic.

Some friends had been asked to sing at a wedding and asked me to play at a practice session as their guitarist couldn't make the practice. That was fine and they asked me to come and play at the wedding.

When I got to the wedding we realised no one had the music. The other guitarist (who was/is a lot better than me) said "No worries, we'll just figure out the chords as we go and you can follow me". In theory, this could work, but as Homer Simpson says "In theory, communism works".

What happened was he was able to play the right chords, but as his mind went though the chords to play, he would initially finger a chord, only to change to the right chord without actually strumming the initial thought. However, I was watching him like a hawk and as soon as I saw him finger a chord I would head to that one and play it. End result was that, as often as not, I was playing a totally different chord to him.

I was so ashamed I was having difficulty with the latches of my guitar case trying to get out of the church before anyone could attack me and then the bride came up and said "thanks" and gave us compliments on our playing. I would rather have had the awful truth.

Years later, I was asked to play at another wedding (obviously by someone who wasn't at the previous one). I told the other musicians about my experience and said that I would walk out, if no music turned up on the day. "Yeah, yeah" they said.

On the day in question, Carmel (who had the music) still hadn't turned up with 30 minutes to go. I'm making very loud noises about leaving while her sister is trying to talk me into staying while ringing Carmel on her mobile. I heard one end of the conversation "Hi Carmel. What are you doing ... That's nice. You know you're supposed to be at the wedding! Get your butt down here". She turned up with five minutes to spare and all went well.

There was the time (and a very long time ago) the drummer & I were taking an 'attitude adjustment' out in the parking lot and came back in to play the second set.

I was grooving away, swinging with the dancers on my bass, as everyone in the band looked at me. I was getting with the groove and had no idea what the leader and other players were staring at, so I looked down at my hands.

I played one root note for the whole song.
Perfect rythme though!
