Busy rushing to finish my recording for the cd, and was hoping one of you studio wizards could help refresh my memory...
I recall that there is a mathematical formula to determine the exact digital delay time for the beats per minute of a song.
Does anyone know it?
Thanks!

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | I want to put some delay on vocals and guitar parts. I know there is a simple formula, which I've used in the (long) past, that determines what rate the delay repeat should be set so that it is exactly in sync with the beats per minute of the song. In simplest terms, I want my delay repeats to be in exact time with the song. This formula is so silly simple and saves time...just thought someone might know. It's a commonly used formula (I thought), I just can't remember it anymore.
Thanks. |

Location: Zion, Illinois | It's really easy (no program but calculator necessary) the formula is sec per min / beats per minute x 1000 or 60/bpm*1000.
ie: 60/140*100=428.57ms for a one beat delay.
divide by two for an eighth note delay, multiply by two for a half note delay, etc.
Gosh, Deja.com makes me look so smart! :D

I've been turning knobs for longer than that. I've never got anything to sound good!
No wonder I keep my day job and just play for fun.

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I guess I do set the delay to the beat, but I just never thought of calulating it. Never to old to learn I guess. I tend to shy away from delay on anything except as a vocal effect in recording anyway. Reverb I use in subtle ways, but the whole "echo" thing can be overused and abused so easily. |
