I bought this when Mars was closing down it's stores.
It played fine for about a week & one morning I noticed the neck was a banana. I took of the truss guard cover and saw the stripped truss rod.
Also the back of the neck under the truss rod nut has wood splintering out.
The neck has a pretty bad bend in it.
What could have caused this
Any ideas on how to get this repaired??
Will Ovation honor the warranty???

call the service department but are you sure the guitar you bought was new? it may have been a return. When the mars near me went out of business it was filled with a ton of broken stuff and unboxed stuff that was obviously returns being pawned off as new. Since the "liquidation company" is not an authorized Ovation dealer and Mars closed owing Kaman Music corp close to 1 Million you maybe out of luck.

I have a receipt from Mars & not a liquidation company.
The guitar was sold as new and it looked new.
The way the neck looks it seems that this was a dog from the day it was attached to the body.
No neck should have such a bow in it, even without a truss rod.

I am not sure of your situation but when I bought stuff from mars when they closed the reciept said all sails final no returns and even though it said Mars, the liquidation company was in charge. I think this gives the manufacturer the option to honor a warranty or not. I bought an akg 414 for $300 with a broken pattern switch that akg fixed under warranty.

your mileage may vary. Call the service dept at Ovation.

Also it does not matter if the guitar was sold "as new and looked new" Mars does not exist anymore.

Under UK law the vendor is responsible for warranty in the first instance, and in the event that the vendor is no longer trading it becomes the responsibilty of the distributor or manufacturer. It is the manufacturer who offers the warranty, the vendor is a third party. It may be different in the USA but if you have a receipt for a new guitar then someone should take responsibility for the repair or replacement of the instrument. You should not be a victim because Mars have gone bust.

It is my understanding that the warranty is valid only if the item is sold by an authorized dealer.

Al, that is also the case in the UK. Weren't Mars an authorised dealer?

absolutely but I am not sure what happens when the product is then sold to a liquidator. At that point Mars is no longer the original seller.

Warranties are interesting to say the least. I have had companies "honor" the warrantee but the shipping, handling, labor charges or whatever made it unreasonable to use the manufacturer and on the other hand... I have had items with NO reciept, that I bought used, fixed for minimal/next to nothing. I think it all depends on the company. I found the guys at Ovation are one of the ones that will try to do everything in their power to make a good guitar and a happy customer. Doesn't always work out that way, but from what I have seen, they usually can and do help.

Walter here.. The oVation phone system is the pits.
There's no way to get to talk to anyone. I left numerous messages & emails, but so far NADA.
This has been all day today.

I did get a response from Ovation.
John gave me a RMA number and we will send out the guitar on Monday.
The experience with him was very positive.
We also will be at the NAMM show next week.
We will not be exhibiting this year in Anaheim because we are moving to larger quarters until the middle of February.
I was impressed with the classical guitar on your site. The black one without the round hole.
Any idea how much that is going for?

Miacom,
If you see Al or I walking around say hello. Most likely we'll be at the Ovation booth if there are any performances going on.
