| I was thinking of getting a bone saddle put on. My main issue are the B and E strings. I just want a brighter crisper sound out of them and the same overall. I know I'm not using the most expensive ovations out there(I play out of a 2002 35th anniv balladeer as my main and a s861 as my backup) but I feel the balladeers, although sounding absolutely beautiful, are lacking some sort of presence. I use elixer custom lights by the way which i find are a smidge better than the exp16's. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |

Location: Scotland | Both your guitars use the Thinline pickup where the pickup elements are integral with the saddle, so unless you want to change the pickup to a Fishman or similar with a separate bone saddle you're stuck with it. I'm surprised you find the guitars lacking in presence, a common critisism of the Ovation sound is that it can be over-bright for some people. I'd experiment with strings & picks till you find something you like. Elixirs & other coated strings tend to sound a little duller than non-coated strings. |

Location: San Bernardino, California | Try a brass pick. I normally switch between three different picks, .38 nylon, tortex sharpie & a brass pick. I like the nylon for fast clean rhtymn, the tortex for lead & the brass for a bright crisp sound. |
