Joined: February 2003 Posts: 1 Location: Chicago, IL | Hey guys...brand new here. I currently own a 1861 ruby burst I bought for a beginning guitar class in college, but have been lusting over epaulet models since I was tiny...I'd been thinking about a custom elite because of the AAA top, epaulets etc. and watching e-bay. But after spending all of last night reading here I've started thinking a vintage deep-bowl would be sweet. So, finally to my question...I've seen the pictures of the 1547 on e-bay and wonder what you guys think of it value-wise...it's still at $300 and that seems like an awfully good deal...is there a big difference between it and the 1537 other than the cutaway? would it be worth it to wait for one to show up? Or if I'm going to irritate my wife by buying another guitar is the one the one to go after? Thanx in advance...I pride myself on my net saavy and this is one of the best, most informative and friendly product sites I've ever seen...ovation should be very grateful to you guys. Tim PS If anyone has solid production #'s or even sketchy completely unverified wild guess about the 1537/1547 I'd be grateful...

I've looked at the pictures and had some sent to me by the current owner (seems to be a nice guy). There are two laquer cracks on it, one on the lower bout and one on the back of the headstock. The frets also show signs of wear and it might need a fret job soon. As a historic piece, or as a guitar that somebody wants to pick up for under $500 and then put some money into, this is a good guitar. If you are looking to just buy a great guitar cheap, it may not be that good of an investment. Also, you mention you are thinking of a deep bowl. This ain't it. However, 1537's come up occassionally on ebay in the $5-800 range. These are great guitars. If you want more infor on them, go to http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data4/Ovation/1537-Custom-Elite--01.html Mine is the first review you'll see (the last review on there.

Mine's the second review on there. The 1537 is just a beautiful guitar. A little after buying mine on E-Bay, someone called me about buying an Adamas, which I did. I promised my wife that I would sell of some of my guitars to pay for the Adamas. I probably could sell the 1537 for what I paid for the Adamas. It was IMHO greatly underpriced at the $549 I bought it for. Problem is, I just would hate to part with it. Something else will have to go (my Gibson is #1 on the "bye bye" list). Just keep an eye on E-Bay. I'm sure another will turn up. Bradley
