Hi folks. Am brand new to this and am very impressed with your bulletin board. I have (I think) a 1978 vintage round body, blond finish with only the volume control. Bought it and a nice hard case at a pawn shop about 6 years ago for $200. Plays and sounds great, with a couple of cracks on the top, which seem to be cosmetic.
I LOVE it!!!

Now, I'm starting to play at church and it's be nice to plug it in...but the pickup doesn't work, even when I replace the battery. Any thoughts? Is it something I can repair myself?

Check that the mini jack from the PU to the pre is connected properly. Connect a cord to an amp, keep the volume low & plug into the guitar, If you don't hear a pop when you plug-in, the contact on the jack which switches the battery on is kaput. Change the socket. Any stereo socket will do, switchcraft or similar is the best bet. Failing that take it to a tech, the circuitry is pretty simple.

Than you VERY much! I'll try it. By the way, I've looked up the number and it's model 1617-4, which is a Glen Campbell Artist Ballardeer Accoustic Electric, Standard Bowl, natural color. Still ove the sound and action of it.

I think if you double check the model number you'll see that you have a Legend acoustic electric, not the Glen Campbell model. There's a difference in the bracing and the Legend has a deeper bowl. Both terrific guitars.

I'm checking, now...

Cut & paste from the Ovation "Cracking the Code" page...

First digit is always 1

Second digit is type of guitar:
-6 Acoustic electric roundbacks

Third digit denotes bowl depth on acoustic and acoustic electrics:
-1 Standard bowl, 5 13/16" deep

Fourth digit denotes mode, for the first eight acoustic models:
-7 Glen Campbell Artist Balladeer

Color code follows hyphen after model number:
-4 Natural

Am I missing something? (You folks are very cool, by the way. I appreciate your friendly help.)

I haven't looked at the codes, but from a 1977 catalog it denotes the Legend (acoustic electric) as model 1617 and the Glen Campbell as model 1627. The straight acoustic models are 1117 and 1127.

The codes listed are from Ovation, but they have changed so many times that they are not always reliable.

I just went back and looked at the codes. It states that 1617 is an acoustic electric Legend.

Anybody else here want to confirm or deny what I'm saying?

Maine-iac, if you want to email me directly with a fax number, I'll send you a copy the page in the catalog.

It's a Legend. A Glen Campbell is essentially a shallow-bowl Legend. The third digit is the key. With a GC the third digit is a "2" indicating shallow bowl, and the Legend has a "1" for deepbowl. Thus: GC's are models 1127/1627 & Legends 1117/1617

And most GC's have his signature in the truss rod cover

You guys are right (which I suspected). Ovation's Timeline shows the 1617 Legend being introduced in 1972. That makes their "Cracking the Code" page incorrect.

Any insights on the 056254 SN?
