Greetings to all Ovation enthusiasts. Glad to have found this place. Hope to learn a lot from you all.
I am Canadian, from Toronto, but transplanted temporarily to Asia.
Temporarily Ovationless. Have owned a Balladeer, but still looking my dream Ovation- an Adamas. Sadly, I had to pass on one yesterday; an Adamas II, older one, black cutaway (new old-stock). It was going for about US$2200.
From reading some posts, I saw mention of differences between export and domestic models.
What are some of the major differences? I did a search but could not find a specific thread.
Thanks, all
regards,

| Welcome Wemedge,
I think you’ll like this site. Its grate to see a new guy do a search before he asks his first question and it’s the best ‘new guy’ question I’ve seen in weeks.

There are several differences that I'm sure many will comment on, one being the Warantee of an import is honored by the store that sells the guitar for a specified amount of time as opposed to the lifetime Warantee from the Factory for the original owner of the Made in USA models. For starters I thought I would throw in some similarities. As far as I know the Bowl and Preamps are the same on many of the models. The wood used for the tops and necks are different. I believe the frets may be the same, bit I'm not sure. |

One thing is for sure you will not get an imported Adamas!
Thanks for joining and participating! |

Location: Waterloo, IL | Greetings Wemedge, and welcome to the group. I see that you are from Canada, but currently in Aisa. Would you happen to be an English instructor in Korea? I have played a few Korean Ovations, and currently own a 1711 Standard Balladeer. The Korean Ovations play well, but the US models just seem to be a little bit better to me. Of course, you pay for that as well. I was going to buy a Korean Celebrity, but when I found the Balladeer used for $450 with case, I felt it was just too good to pass up. I think the Korean guitars are nice as well.

Chuck, I hope you have a safe journey home. No, I'm not in Korea. I'm in Kuala Lumpur. My firm advises on Canadian investments (legal matters).
Still agonizing over that Adamas. The price isn't that bad for a new old stock Adamas, I suppose. I'm torn between paying a little more for an NOS Adamas here versus looking for a used one later.
