Well, after playing my new legend for about a week, I realized that i was having troubles playing clean bar chords especially further up the neck. I do not have this problem on my "cheapy" Ibanez acoustic. The relief is fine on the guitar. I measured the action at the 12th at 4/32(bass) and 3/32(treble)which according to the manual is about the highest it should be. So I took the saddle off and pulled one of the two shims out and strung the guitar back up and let it sit for a bit. Checked the relief and it still looked good. The action measured right around what the manual says is "nominal". However, now the low e and a strings buzz when picking moderately hard almost all the way up and down the neck. The other four strings are fine.

I use medium guage Elixir polywebs on both guitars. Maybe I'm just not used to the lower frets on the legend? Any suggestions? I am planning on taking it in to be setup this week so hopefully that will help.

Funny you shold post this. My Legend has been buzzing since I went from my Phosphorous Bronze med. to med. Elixer strings. I know my frets are pretty flat, but it was almost instantaneous. I tried adding a shim I removed months ago, and I tried relieving some neck tension, but she stillbuzzes on low E (that's O.K.,I still love her).

I've never heard of strings doing this, but who knows, it is interesting. Keep us posted,I'm sure when you get it set up, they will let you know what the problem was. By the way, I was quoted $75.00 to re-fret my Legend. Does anyone know if that sounds like a reasonable price? Not a lot of choices in Brainerd, MN.

It does sound a little low. It sound closer to the price someone might charge to polish and dress the current frets... Also, if this is a USA model (sorry buys I'm still an electric guy), Then I'm not sure how easy it is to get the fretwire as far as I know Ovation uses their own.

Thanks Al,

What type of questions should I ask about the fret job to know it's being done right? Is there a big difference in quality of frets, or finishing the frets? Never had it done before. This is the same guy who did a nice job repairing the crack in my Legend for $50.00.
