Hey Guys..

My Custom Legend 6 string has suddenly developed a nasty rattling sound from somewhere under/within the bridge area when I strum. It sounds as though it's from the underside, within the guitar. Perhaps something has just come loose.

I'm taking it into my authorized repair shop this week, but was wondering if this kind of thing is covered under warranty? Please forgive my ignorance re the warranty-I'm not sure what is covered and/or for how long.

The guitar has to be about 4 years old and well taken care of. I'm mystified as to what I could have done to cause this, as the guitar has been on a stand, and only played about 2 times in the last 3 weeks, so I know it's nothing having to do with abuse on my part.

Johnny;

Don't take this the wrong way, but make sure there's not a pick inside of it :)
(Unfortunately, I'm speaking from experience).

Check to make sure one of the wires that runs from the pre-amp/saddle/output jack hasn't come loose and might be touching against the underside of the top.

Pop the battery out and make sure it's properly re-seated and not loose (while you're at it, make sure the pre-amp assembly isn't loose either).

Also, make sure there's nothing loose on the neck or headstock. Strange as it may seem, something could be vibrating up there but it sounds like it's coming from under the bridge 'cause the top is acting like a resonator(speaker).

Worse case scenario, you might have a loose brace
(but what do I know? I just listen to Al and he just sells gear for a living). :D

If memory serves me correctly, Dave's Sound is an authorized Ovation Service Center (but YOU'D know that better than I). I'll shut up now.

Good Luck!!

Many years ago a friend of mine owned a Custom Balladeer that had a buzz. It appeared to be a bridge problem or loose brace, noone could identify or fix it, but every repairer said the braces & bridge were not the problem. It turned out to be the output jack vibrating to specific frequencies, a blob of blutac cured it. Cliff's right, check everything inside the guitar; preamp, battery holder, jack etc. My Ovation mandolin developed a rattle which would come & go. It was driving me nuts till I realised I only heard the rattle when the strap was on. Turned out the be the locking mechanism on one of the Dunlop Straplocks

Not sure what it's called in the US, Blutac is a blue reuseable putty used for sticking posters and notices to walls.

I, too, had this happen to me on an Adamas II. Drove me crazy until I figured out what was causing it. I think I just wraped it with a bit of electrical tape.
