Location: U.K. | I would be very grateful if anyone could help. My 15yr old son has set his heart on a bass guitar being offered for sale locally for £ 250 - thats about $ 410. The guitar in question is an Ovation Celebrity solid body electric 4 -string bass, finished in black with pearl inlays on the neck. I have never seen one before and dealers here in the U.K. seem to only stock the Acoustic/Electric range from Ovation. Any information would be most helpful before I part with my hard-earned cash ! These teenage rock bands are very expensive to run ! |

Location: Scotland | £250 is high, even for the UK. I paid less than that for my USA-made Ovation Magnum with case. The Celeb basses are OK but I'd want to pay £125-£175 max and it would need to be pristine to get the higher price. Unless he really wants this particular bass there are better instruments to be had for £250 |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | The Celeb basses are not worth much, although some managed to actually play ok. Ovation no longer makes anything but the a/e basses, but Paul is right. You can even get an Ovation Ultra GS bass (like a Fender style) for less than $400 + in the states, and of course there are the Made In the USA Magnum solid body basses that are outstanding instruments that are in that price range or less. |
