Location: Scotland | In my experience current USA Ovation factory set-up is very good & very consistent, there shouldn't be a significant difference between the two guitars. Playability/set-up is a very personal thing, and if you don't like the factory set-up any competent tech can adjust it till it suits you.
The Elite-T may well be a better sounding guitar |

Very true. Thanks for the dose of reality. I'm as guilty as anyone for forgetting the guitar can be customized to the player's specs. I will give the guitars another spin and make a decision more on sound.
I'm interested in a shallow body, so I don't know how much flexibility I have in the sound area. I mainly would like to have an acoustic to mimic an electric. This will be a guitar to practice leads and run scale.
I've played three Elite Specials at different shops. What's bothersome is the action has been different each time. I picked up a T series the other day and the action was similar to an electric. Again, the guitar action can be set, so that has ceased to be a concern. By price, I wonder if the Special is better than the T series.

When he finally picked one, the salesman said that he'd go downstairs to get one still in the box. Which is fine, but when it came upstairs, I insisted he try it, and guess what, while it didn't have that slight shop worn look, it didn't "feel" as nice as the one on display. So he got the display model.
I have to admit I like that 1778T pewter color. Very cool. If you can combine a good feel guitar with looks, buy that one. |

Thanks for taking a few minutes to lend your thoughts and advice...valuable words. I returned to the music store and gave both guitars another spin. The sound of the T series is "unique", but balanced. It seems each string has equal volume. I think I will go with the T Series shallow body in black.
The T series guitar will add to my small collection of Ovations...Elite, Trekker, and Applause. The Elite 1778 was a special order on my part...I didn't want fretboard inlays, just an ebony fretboard on a black body. The Trekker was purchased for job travel and sitting-in-front-of-the-TV-running-scales uses. The Applause was my Ovation first, "borrowed" from my Dad when he didn't follow through on learning to play.
I hope to post a picture of the guitars once I receive the Elite T. The guitar will be a B-Day present from my wife and family. Not a bad present!
