When I am not playing one of my two Ovations, I presently keep them leaning into different corners of my living room.
My question ; is it OK to store these by hanging them from wall mounted hangers? I ask because Ovations are heavier than most guitars, and I dont want to induce some kind of warping or other damage.
Thanks for any input.

Location: Las Cruces, NM | I will defer to Paul if you are playing them every day, if not, I would suggest putting them in their case if they are idle for even a few days. The case protects them from the temperature and humidity changes that occur throughout every day. It doesn't seem very important, but you are hoping to be able to play your guitars for 30 or 40 years and little bits of flexing each day could add up to unwanted changes. (I have 30 year old mandolins and guitars that come out of the case in tune and easy to play.)
I have to admit, the cases look like shit, my mandolin case is falling apart but the mandolin is great.

Location: SoCal | I've got 9 Ovations and one old Martin (from 1914) and they are all either on stands or on the wall, scattered around the house. I guess that I'm lucky, living in So. Calif where there isn't much humidity and no radical weather changes.
All the guitars stay in tune (except the two nylon strings, the martin and a country artist)). Just have to dust them occassionally, but not even that much as they all get played on a regular basis.
If they are living in cases, they don't get played. |

For the first time, I had to bring the guitar in to have the truss rod adjusted. It cost $30. I like keeping it on a stand, but I think for my next guitar I'll keep it in its case and use the Daddario humidity control system. |
